Alec is a serial entrepreneur with a passion for building efficiency by building success in those around him. As one of the early startup pioneers here in NYC, Alec worked to co-found DigitalOcean - an infrastructure company that has grown the be the second largest web hosting provider in the world, employing hundreds of New Yorkers through its more than $300M in venture funding. He is also the founder of TechDay, the largest startup event in the US, which attracts tens of thousands of entrepreneurs each year.
Prior to his tech career, Alec graduated with a degree in Political Science from Emory University and was engaged in speech and debate and student government. Now, as a leader in the tech world, Alec dedicates a significant amount of his time cultivating and mentoring rising talent. Alec has mentored for TechStars, NYC BigApps, MassChallenge, the Barclays Accelerator and many more. He has also been a three-time special guest of the NASDAQ stock exchange to ring the closing bell on behalf the tech community at large.
Alec also has an exceptionally strong background in technical governmental infrastructure through serving on the board of advisors for the Estonian government's e-Residency Program, and the Bermuda Tourism Authority. Simply put, Alec knows what it takes to build a better New York City with emphasis on efficiency, technology, affordability and universal prosperity.
On a personal level, Alec is married to his wife Marcie, a special needs teacher and graduate of Teachers College, Columbia University. Alec and Marcie live in the Upper East Side with their puppy Rio.
